How common is endometriosis?

Endometriosis is the second most common benign disease affecting women. According to conservative estimates, approximately 10 % of sexually mature women are affected. Endometriosis is responsible for up to 80 % of chronic lower abdominal pain and is the cause of fertility problems in some 50 % of our fertility patients. In Germany alone, approximately 2 million women are affected by endometriosis.
